The percentage of PL Washington quarters graded is among the highest among the modern series – but make no mistake, the number of PL Washington’s is still low! The total number of coins certified is also low. As with most modern series, the prooflikes seem to fall into two groups – the first group between 1968 and 1972, primarily from the Denver mint. The second group begins in the late eighties and goes through the end of the series.

My coin is the only graded PL from 1995, and it grades a remarkably high 67 PL. The obverse is fully prooflike and reflective, but the reverse is where this coin truly shines. The reverse is glassy and mirrored, and looks just like a brilliant proof. The strike on this coin is incredible, and is just another reason to love this flashy coin. It is quite clearly one of the first strikes off this die pair.

Just a note on the picture itself – many of the photo’s in this collection are taken by the talented Bob Campbell. The obverse picture shown here is one of many favorites, and I chose it to highlight the surfaces of this coin. Several of my modern prooflikes have been photographed in the same style, and show the fantastically intriguing textured surfaces which characterize modern prooflikes. You really need to see them to appreciate what I’m talking about.
