Owner Comments:

PCGS graded MS 65 BN, EAC MS60+
Variety: N-6, Large Letters, MDS, CC#1
Ex: Turissini; Naftzger

This is a nicely lustrous cent. It has a couple minor marks and very slightly uneven toning, but is well struck, including most of the stars. It is a beautiful cent.

I bought this coin in February 2009 (Super Bowl Sunday) in the Goldbergs' sale of the Ted Naftzger collection. Due to a bit of personal stupidity, I arrived late to that auction. After missing out on my #1 priority for the sale (a nice MS65BN 1828 cent), and being blown away by other bids on a target 1829, I was very pleased to pick up this pretty penny for half what I was willing to pay. It is an upgrade for an NGC graded MS64BN cent.

From the Goldberg's catalog:

Large Letters Reverse. Choice lustrous light bluish steel brown with excellent eye appeal. The only marks are a microscopic nick across the top of the L in LIBERTY, another on the bottom edge of the bust above the 8, and a third on the C in CENT. A speck of darker toning right of the F in OF is a good identifying mark. MDS. There are fine die flowlines in the fields near the dentils on the obverse and microscopic die rust covers much of the wreath (this reverse die was used in two earlier marriages and always shows some die rust in this marriage). Called MS63 choice and tied for CC#1 in the Noyes census, his photo #31898. Our grade is MS60+
