Owner Comments:
NGC graded MS 65 BN, CAC approved.
Variety: N-3, EDS
This coin has no mentionable flaws, is mostly well struck,
and nicely lustrous. It is a generally pleasing cent.
I bought this coin at a March 2006 ANR auction in Baltimore. I enjoy live auctions, and pay close attention to active bidders. For this coin, I was bidding against a prominent EAC dealer. There are times when he gives visible signs that he has bid his last. He did so on this coin. I was willing to bid more, but I took the risk of a cut bid. Fortunately, I read the dealer correctly and now own the coin for what I think was a good price. I spoke with that dealer after we left the auction session. He told me that this is a really nice coin. I agree.
From the ANR catalog:
1839 N-3. Rarity-1. Head of 1838. MS-65 BN (NGC).
Boldly spinning cartwheel lustre encircles rich chocolate brown surfaces, highlighted with attractive olive on the reverse. Glossy and appealing with no significant flaws. A coin of impressive quality.
