Owner Comments:

NGC graded MS 66 BN
Variety: N-6, Upright 5, die state a

This coin is a pretty example from the penultimate year of large cent production. There are no contact marks to speak of, and the strike is sharp except for several stars. As is fairly common in mint state large cents, the reverse color and luster are nicer than on the obverse, but the obverse is still very nice.

I obtained this cent from an ANR (since merged with Stack's) auction prior to the 2006 FUN show in Orlando.

From the ANR catalog:
1856 N-6. Rarity-1. MS-66 BN (NGC).
Lustrous chocolate brown with some chestnut undertones of faded mint color, especially prominent on the reverse. Nicely struck though lacking a few star centers, free of all but the most minor ticks. A good-looking cent and a fine way to represent this design in a type set.
